Why Humidity Causes Frizz

Hair absorbs moisture from the air. When it takes in that moisture unevenly, the strands swell and the surface of the hair lifts, and the result is frizz: a rough, puffy look that is hard to control.

Dry, porous or chemically treated hair tends to react more, and so do curls and waves, which are naturally drier. In Puerto Rico's humid climate that reaction can happen all year, not only in the rainy months.

What an Anti-Frizz Treatment Does

A professional smoothing treatment is applied to the hair to reduce frizz and add shine, so hair dries smoother and holds its shape better in humid weather. Some treatments mainly calm frizz and keep natural movement. Others also relax curl and wave so the hair dries smooth and straight.

How We Work: Step by Step

The photos below show the process on real clients at our salon. The hair is divided into small sections and clipped, and each section is treated one at a time so the product is applied evenly. Partway through, you can see the smoothed hair on one side next to the natural hair on the other.

We finish with a clean, polished result that you can see and judge for yourself in the before-and-after photos.

Is an Anti-Frizz Treatment Right for Your Hair?

Not always, and not immediately. Hair that has been lightened, colored or treated with other chemical services needs to be assessed first, because what is safe and what is realistic depends on what is already in the hair.

In the consultation we look at your texture, density, condition and color history. If your hair is ready, we explain which option makes sense and what to expect. If it is not, we tell you that and suggest what to do first.

Aftercare depends on the treatment we choose for your hair. At your appointment we explain how to care for it at home, including the products that work best with it, so you can keep the result looking good in daily life.
